My studio
Private lesson studioI’m now accepting students at my private lesson studio. I believe music is everyone’s birthright, and I welcome students of all ages, backgrounds and levels, from curious beginners to advanced musicians.
As a professional performer with a formal music education, I help each student build real skills, find their own voice, and take their music from the practice room to the stage. Wherever you’re starting from: come as you are, and play as you are.

Your teacher
Adaptive artistryI’m Christian Dyble, a trumpeter, pianist, vocalist and composer based in Appleton. I studied jazz and classical music at Lawrence University, where I earned a Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance and composition with a jazz emphasis.
I was born without my left hand, so I’ve always had to find my own way of doing things, music included. Trumpet came first, and I developed my own technique for the piano. That shapes how I teach: every student learns differently, and part of my job is finding the way that works for you.
Every lesson blends instrumental proficiency, functional musicianship like ear training and improvisation, and the academic foundation of theory and reading. Come as you are, and play as you are.

Questions
Good to knowDo you teach beginners?
Yes. I teach all levels, from curious beginners who have never touched an instrument to advanced players preparing for auditions.
What is it like learning piano from a one-handed teacher?
I was born with a birth defect: I’m missing everything below where my left wrist would be. I understand if you’re unsure what it would be like to learn piano from a one-handed instructor. I’ve taught hundreds of hours of piano lessons to students from beginner to advanced and young to old, and I’ve developed my teaching strategies to make sure my difference never gets in the way of learning. If you’re curious about my playing, watch my performance videos and decide for yourself.
What ages do you teach?
Ages 5 and up. My students have ranged from 5 to 55. For students under 12, an adult is present for every lesson.
Where are lessons held?
In person in Appleton, at your home around the Fox Valley (a travel fee is added based on distance), or remotely from anywhere with steady internet and a device with a camera and mic.
How much do lessons cost?
In-person lessons are $35 for 30 minutes or $65 for 60 minutes. Remote lessons are $30 or $55. Prepaying for 4, 8 or 12 lessons saves 10 to 20 percent, and your first lesson is half off.
How do I pay?
Cash or check, either per lesson or by prepaying for 4, 8 or 12 lessons. There’s no contract and no late fees.
What if we need to cancel?
Give 24 hours’ notice and your lesson will be rescheduled. If you’re feeling sick or the weather is bad, you can switch to a remote lesson instead of cancelling. The full policies are in the studio agreement (PDF).
Can you help with school band, choir and Solo & Ensemble?
Yes. I support students with concerts, auditions and Solo & Ensemble, and give clear practice goals between lessons so you know what to work on at home.
What do students need?
Students usually buy their own lesson books, and I’ll recommend which ones. You’ll also get a weekly practice plan from me.
